Short Term Training Awards

Short Term Training Awards are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Short Term Training Awards assist people in the work force to gain knowledge and skills that will help the development of their home country. They play an important and growing role in addressing the human resource and development needs of developing countries.

What the awards offer

Through Short Term Training Awards, individuals from selected developing countries can undertake training of up to one year in duration in New Zealand. A wide range of short-term vocational and/or skills courses or work attachments are offered.

Short Term Training Awards cover payment of fees, return economy air fares, an establishment grant, and a basic living allowance. Costs and allowances are paid through a management services consultant.

General eligibility criteria

Generally, candidates must be employed and be nominated for an award by their employer.

Terms and conditions

All applicants who are offered an Short Term Training Awards will be required to sign a contract with the New Zealand Government declaring they will comply with the terms and conditions of the scholarship.
