Types of scholarships
New Zealand Pacific Scholarships
Up to 6 scholarships are available to applicants from the Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Nauru and Palau for study at one of 10 eligible New Zealand education institutions.
Up to 3 scholarships for applicants from Nauru for undergraduate study.
One scholarship per country is available for applicants from the Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands and Palau for postgraduate study only.
Priority sectors
In the Micronesia region, New Zealand Pacific Scholarships will prioritise the following areas of study:
- Agriculture and fisheries: including agricultural sciences, agribusiness, animal husbandry, applied sciences/technology related to rural development, marine science, fisheries management and veterinary science related to rural development.
- Environmental studies: including marine conservation, land and water management, forestry, renewable energy technology, resource management, land rehabilitation, waste management and urban environment and town planning.
- Leadership and governance: Including development studies, development planning, management, law (postgraduate study only), political science, social science research, demography, social policy, indigenous studies, organisational psychology, anthropology and strategic studies.
- Economics: including development economics, agricultural economics, development studies, development planning, international trade, banking, finance, business management, commerce and marketing.
- Public sector governance and reform: including budgeting, tax reform, monitoring and evaluation, public auditing, public sector management, public policy, public sector finance, public sector administration, management and statistics.
- Human rights and gender.
- Education: including, education administration, management and leadership, education planning, teaching and research.
- Health: including nursing, public health and HIV/AIDS.
Specific Priority Sectors for Nauru
- Leadership and governance: Including development planning, management, law (postgraduate study only), political science, social science research, demography, social policy, and organisational psychology
- Public sector governance and reform/Economics:
- including development economics, agricultural economics, development planning, international trade, banking, finance, and business management.
- including budgeting, tax reform, monitoring and evaluation, public auditing, public sector management, public policy, public sector finance, public sector administration, management and statistics.
- Environmental studies: including marine conservation, land and water management, forestry, renewable energy technology, resource management, land rehabilitation, waste management and urban environment and town planning.
- ICT: including computer systems engineering, programming, computer science, computer studies, electronic engineering and computer systems, software development and engineering, financial management information systems
- Building Industry and industrial development: architecture, project management, building skills, metal working, material technology, quantity surveying and similar skills
- Human rights and gender/Education: including, education administration, education planning, teaching and research, and special education.
- One of the New Zealand Pacific Scholarships for Nauru will be dedicated for marine and fisheries related undergraduate study”.

Applicants must meet the general eligibility criteria outlined on the New Zealand Pacific Scholarship page.
Making an application
Applicants apply directly to one of the 10 eligible New Zealand education institutions before the institutions closing date.
