Programme framework

The New Zealand Aid Programme is made up of 24 individual programmes. These programmes apply the overall New Zealand Aid Programme mission to specific countries, regions, sectors and themes. Multi-country thematic programmes

Multi-country thematic programmes include all multi-country initiatives under a specific theme or sector.

Country programmes

Country programmes are New Zealand’s bilateral aid to a country. They focus on a country’s specific needs and context. 

Regional programmes

Regional programmes allow the New Zealand Aid Programme to have a coordinated approach to region-wide issues.


Agency programmes

The New Zealand Aid Programme has programmes based around partnerships with other organisations.


  • New Zealand Partnerships and funds including New Zealand state sector agencies, non-government organisations and research funds.
  • Humanitarian response fund
  • Other expenditure including Head of Mission Fund, Nauru, French Pacific Territories, Commonwealth Scholarships, Regional Pacific Scholarships, strategic evaluation and research.
